Today, action figures are not just limited to superheroes or supervillains. Popular athletes like Michael Jordan (basketball), Alfonso Soriano (baseball), Roberto Carlos (football), or Stone Cold Steve Austin (wrestling) that dominate their sport also have figures that are moulded to their likeness. Just like any other action figure, sports figures can increase their value over time if they are well taken care of. Here are some ways on how to care and store your pieces so they will remain in good condition.
First, remove those annoying price tags. You need to be careful when taking these away though in order to avoid leaving glue residue or damaging the piece or its packaging. You can use a specially formulated solvent in the local hardware store to safely remove the tag. If you cannot find this solvent, take a piece of masking tape, stick it on the tag, and peel it out quickly. You may have to do this process repeatedly to get rid of the residue.
Next, do some regular cleaning for your sports figures. Use an old toothbrush to scrub away the grime and dust that accumulates on the surface. To clean kinks and cavities, use a camel-hair blower brush, which you can find in stores that specialise in photographic equipment. If the piece is particularly dirty, wipe the surface off with a damp cloth that is immersed in detergent. Never immerse the sports figurine in water because that can rust screws and other metal parts inside. Finally, display your miniature athletes in a dust-free place that is not hit by direct sunlight or heat. A glass case provides a great way to present your favourite sportsmen collection.
