Child Development Through the Years: From Baby Products to Puberty

For many parents, welcoming an infant into their family is a major event. At most times, the experience is exciting and joyful; at other periods, it can require a bit of hard work and a lot of sleepless nights on the part of the mother and father. If you are in such a situation, you should treasure the time that you are able to spend with your baby. Your little one will grow up, and before you know it, he will be walking around wearing navel rings and talking back at you. But we're getting too far ahead of ourselves, aren't we? Here are some of the crucial ages and stages of child development, and how your wee Keith or Tim will not always remain little forever.

  • Infancy (Birth to 12 months old)
  • It is at this phase that your child will grow more than he will at other periods of his life. By his first birthday, for instance, he will have doubled his weight and height. Also, in just 12 short months, he will have learned various physical functions, such as rolling over, sitting up, crawling, walking, and even talking. It is vital that you acquire quality baby products for him to ensure his comfort and hygiene while at this crucial stage.

  • Toddler Years (1 to 2 years old)
  • By this time, your little one will have learned to walk by himself. It is also at this phase that his mental development begins to be active, as he will then learn how to communicate in short, simple words and phrases. It is ideal that you begin to potty train him at this age.

  • Preschool (3 to 4 years old)
  • At this level, your child will begin to soak up information like a sponge. His curiosity is fully alive at this point and he will be able to know his name as well as sing the alphabet and other nursery songs. He will also have mastered the act of dressing himself by this time. Answer whatever questions he might have about his environment; such moments can serve as good bonding activities between you and your youngster.

  • School Age (5 to 9 years old)
  • Within these years, your kid will be able to develop friendships and social relationships with other people, especially those his own age. Also, action figures like the toys featured on this website will appeal to him. However, this period is also critical as it is then that he will begin to perceive the symptoms and effects of stress. Make sure that you are there for him when he needs someone to talk to.

  • The Tween Years (10 to 12 years old)
  • Your young one will likely experience some confusion at this point, as it is at this level that his body may begin to experience all the changes that come with puberty, but yet, he cannot call himself a teenager. He might also begin to have certain identity issues at this time, so make sure that you make him feel that you are there to help and support him any time.

Before your child grows into an adult, he will have to go through a lot of growth and experiences first. As parents, it is your role to be there for him, from his first wobbling walk to his confident march at his graduation rites.
